Portfolio > Strange Attractor

A strange attractor is curious island of order or synchronicity that occurs within a chaotic system. Astonishingly, mathematicians have created an algorithmic graph for the strange attractor. The resulting pattern looks like a butterfly or infinity looping back on itself.

This interactive installation is designed to become a strange attractor. The viewer, by sitting in the chair, initiates the system- setting into motion a unique computer algorithmic pattern for a strange attractor. This uniquely generated pattern controls the way in which the butterflies flutter as well as the overlapping of the audio (Pensees by Virginia Woolf). In turn, a video projection pours over the table, butterflies, and viewer casting them all in the net of this individual temporal experience.
